One of my goals in launching N8tip.com was to highlight products and services that I find useful. In case you’re wondering … no, I’m not on the take for these. Although, if you have a product or service you’d like me to review, send it my way … and go ahead and put me on the take. Just kidding!

I few months ago, I was in the market for a decent set of moderately priced noise canceling headphones. I think headphones are a great investment, especially if you work in busy, noisy places. I work with a ton of folks who work in a cubicle environment … headphones can go a long way in drowning out the noise and distraction.

That said, bellow is a review I wrote for amazon.com (where I purchased these headphones and a few thousand dollars of other stuff every year). I’ve been a huge fan of the site for years. Mostly because of the reviews, pricing, and free shipping on a lot of their merchandise. But back to the headphones, I gave them 4/5 stars:
This is actually my first set of noise canceling headphones, so I really don’t have anything to compare them to. However, I did read several other reviews on these and other headphones here at Amazon before deciding on this set.

First off, for under $50 (including shipping!), I think these headphones are bargain. There are other models that range well into the hundreds of dollars - that seemed a little much for me.

Second, my main reason for purchasing these headphones was three fold:

1) I do travel about twice per month. Therefore, I wanted a good quality, easily portable set of headphones.

2) As a consultant, I work all over the place, and sometimes end up working in coffee shops, restaurants, hotel lobbies, etc. All busy, noisy places … I wanted a comfortable, quality set of headphones to drown out background noise, so I could relax and concentrate.

3) I recently launched a personal development site with tips and reviews at www.n8tip.com … This is definitely a product I wanted to write a review about (because I’ve had a few clients ask about them)

It’s been about two months since I’ve purchased the headphones. I mention that only because I can’t really attest to their longevity yet, but so far … so good.

The Pros:

Cost

Quality of sound

Portability with retractable cord

The Cons:

The only disadvantage is my ears become sore after several hours of continual use. (thats the only thing that kept them from getting all 5 stars)

One final note: Using headphones on an airplane is great, but bringing your own player makes for a far more relaxing ride. Although these will plug directly into the airplane’s movie/music system - keep this in mind first: Every time the captain or flight attendants make an announcement … it’s extra amplified through these headphones. I learned this the hard way, while trying to sleep on an east coast to west coast flight home … they literally made announcements every 30 minutes or so, it was like they were screaming in my ear. So, if you’re planning on resting on a flight, do yourself a favor and bring your own player!
